Pre-admission Testing and Interview

Preoperative Phone Interview: Some patients are eligible for a preoperative phone interview with our nurse. Ask your physician about eligibility requirements if you are interested in participating. The interview will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete, and must be completed within one week of your surgery date.

Pre-Admission testing is dedicated to meeting the concerns of our pre-operative patients and their families. A visit gives each patient having surgery the opportunity to incorporate all registration, testing, health history reviews and teaching into one visit.

Please have the following with you at the time of the Preadmission Interview:
Your complete medical and surgical history
A list of all medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, including dosage information
A list of any allergies to medicines, food, latex, dust, pollen or other sources
The names and telephone numbers of your primary care physician and any specialists you are seeing
A copy of your Health Care Proxy or Living Will, if applicable
During Your Preadmission Interview
Please discuss any specific instructions with your physician about your pre-admission/preoperative visit. During your visit, you will:

Complete forms about your health
Be weighed and have your height measured
Complete any tests requested by your doctor. These vary depending on your health and type of surgery, but can include vital signs, blood tests, urine tests and/or an EKG. If possible, studies should be done at least several days before admission so we can analyze the results.
A nurse will also complete a nursing assessment and will provide pre- and postoperative information about your surgery. You might also need to be seen by other medical specialists who will work together to prepare you for a safe surgical procedure. Again, studies should be done at least several days before admission so we can analyze the results.

Phone interviews are made by the Center’s staff to patients within a few days of your scheduled surgery. Calls include health screening and peri-operative teaching.
